FAQ

What does a psych NP do? Are you a therapist?

  • Psychiatric nurse practitioners are trained to make mental health diagnoses, prescribe medications to treat mental health conditions, and provide some counseling. Teresa focuses primarily on medication management, but does provide some counseling during appointments. However, for formal therapy she will recommend therapists that are suited to each patient’s individual needs and preferences.

What is reproductive/perinatal psychiatry?

  • Reproductive or perinatal psychiatry is a subspecialty that focuses on the nuanced needs of psychiatric care before, during, and after pregnancy. Because there are some psychiatric medications that are less preferable or not well studied in pregnancy and lactation, it is important to trust your care with specialists who have added expertise for this population. Care may start at a variety of times in the perinatal window. It can be initiated when a patient with mental health concerns or conditions is planning a pregnancy. Some patients may seek care when they find out they are pregnant and want help managing medications safely for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Some psychiatric problems arise during pregnancy or in the postpartum period from birth to one year. Regardless of where we meet on your journey, Daylily is committed to helping you safely manage your medications without compromising your mental wellness.

Do you accept Insurance? What are your rates?

  • Yes, I am currently accepting multiple insurance carriers: Aetna, Ascension (SmartHealth), Carelon Behavioral Health, Cigna, Oscar, Oxford, and United Healthcare. For self-pay, my current rate is $150 for the initial appointment and $75 for follow up.

Will I have to find different psychiatric care after my postpartum period?

  • Teresa will work with each patient individually to decide if or when it would be the right time to transition to a different type of psychiatric provider. Please know you won’t be left on your own just because you’ve reached a time milestone.

Do you provide hormone treatments?

  • No, this is not an area of expertise for Daylily at this time, but it is an area that patients are passionate about so we will be adding reputable hormone services to our referral list.

Do you only see moms and women?

  • No! Reproductive psychiatry is not only for birthing people. Partners and support people may benefit from our services as well. We also accept referrals for those who think we are just a good fit for care.

How often will I have appointments?

  • This will differ with individual patients and over time. Initially we will likely meet more often (every 1-4 weeks) as we work through the diagnostic process and medication adjustments. Appointments will also be more frequent when medications are being started, stopped, or changed. When a patient is stable and feeling well, we may only be meeting every 3-6 months.
